Obituary: Johnny Lee (J.L.) Kimbrough (Cason Monk-Metcalf)

     Johnny Lee (J. L.) Kimbrough passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011, in Garrison peacefully with his wife at his side.

      Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors. Interment is at Bethel Cemetery in Appleby.

      Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.

      Kimbrough was born May 29, 1935, in Garrison. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer D. Kimbrough and Charlsye Williams Kimbrough. He graduated from Garrison High School and Nacogdoches Business College and was self-employed as an asphalt contractor for 35 years. He was also a member of the Appleby Church of Christ and served as a deacon at North St. Church of Christ.

      J. L. loved to garden and play 42 and being outdoors, particularly on his tractors. He also enjoyed spending time with family, relished a good fire in the winter, and sitting on the porch swing watching his grandchildren play.

      Survivors include DoraLee, his wife of 54 years; daughters LeeAnn Holley and husband Gordon; Kelleen Murray and husband Dana; and son Michael Kimbrough and wife Heather; grandchildren, Ethan Murray and wife Kayla, Kevin Murray, Dylan Murray, Corbin Murray, Taylor Holley, Cailin Holley, Robert Kimbrough, and Evan Kimbrough; sisters Donna Phillips and Virginia Brandon; sisters-in-law Hazel Phillips, Margaret Russell, Juanita Peterson, and Margaret Peterson; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

      Pallbearers will be Gordon Holley, Dana Murray, David Russell, Gary Russell, Ethan Murray and Tony Wheeler.

      Honorary pallbearers are Jack Griffin, Ernest Keith, Dylan Murray, Kevin Murray, Travis Chandler, David Johnson, Robert Stanaland, Coot Brandon and Donnie Austin Jr.

      Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association and the Nacogdoches Treatment Center.
