Delores Jones Obituary and Photo

jonesMrs. Delores Edna Jones passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Kingwood Medical Center in Kingwood, Texas, at the age of 76.

Delores was born May 23, 1941, in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, one of eleven children of Cletus and Rose Bahr. She received her BSN from St. Louis University, where she met her best friend and future husband, William Jones. Bill and Delores and their family settled in Nacogdoches, Texas, in the early 1970s, making East Texas their permanent home.

Delores was an avid gardener, specializing in daylilies but with an amazing breadth in all things horticultural, and was certified as a Master Gardener. She was a keen bridge player and a lover of reading and the arts.

She was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, enjoying bible study and the Third Age Club. She devoted hours with the gardens at the SFA Mast Arboretum and was active with the Flora Garden Club. Her home was always home to at least one cat.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William A. Jones; a son, Matthew (Marye); two sisters, Janet (Jim) Looker and Rose (Michael) Day; and two brothers, David and Wayne Bahr.

She is survived by daughter Carolyn (Clayton) Cogburn, sons Bill (Jenny) and Steven (Jennifer), grandchildren Christopher Cogburn, Madelyn, Olivia, Noah and Gabriel Jones, brother Leroy (Lenor “Bebe”), sisters Elaine (the late Don) McClure, Norma (the late Al) Weinrich, Marilyn (David) Retherford, Cleta (Leawn) Hlavachick and Sharon Grizzle, many nieces and nephews, cats Smokey and Socks, and hundreds of daylilies.

Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 2508 Appleby Sand Road in Nacogdoches, with Monsignor James E. Young officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 5127 North Street, Nacogdoches.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. A rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Father Christopher V. Ruggles officiating.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cengiz and Vicki Satir and staff, Dr. Ventura and staff, the Wound Care Center, Greg McEntire and Jordan Home Health for the excellent care she has received over the last few months.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Nacogdoches, 2508 Appleby Sand Road, Nacogdoches, TX, 75965.
