TS HARVEY LOCAL UPDATE 30 AUG 17 1100HRS.
• CURRENT: As TS Harvey moves northeast, massive amounts of rainfall is being recorded in the Golden Triangle area of Texas. Evacuees from that area are currently being sheltered in that area. According to information from TXDOT, roads leading north out of southeast Texas are closed due to floodwaters. Harvey continues on a northeasterly track. Nacogdoches is currently under a FLASH FLOOD WARNING until 2:00 pm today. After the warning expires, we will remain under a flash flood watch.
• LOCAL CONDITIONS: Nacogdoches creeks are currently flowing within their banks. Persons in low lying areas should be especially watchful during the Flash Flood Warning period and should remain attentive after the warning expires to rising water conditions. Localized street flooding is always a possibility. Never drive into water that is over curb deep. Turn Around-Don’t Drown.
• LOCAL SHELTER SITUATION: Nacogdoches Emergency Management personnel have been in contact this morning with the State Operations Center, The State Shelter Coordinator, and the Emergency Management Staff of Angelina County to our south. The state officials this morning have stated that shelters in Nacogdoches and Angelina counties are not needed at this time, but remain in a ready to open status should the state activate them. Shelters are opened by the state operations center, as part of an organized, statewide emergency management plan. Should Nacogdoches shelters be notified to activate, the will be opened quickly and are ready to serve.
