Sarah Aline Watkins Crump

Just shy of her 95th birthday, Sarah Aline Watkins Crump passed from this wonderful life on January 6th.

Born on January 29, 1916 in the Linn Flat community of Nacogdoches County, she was the first child of Susan Roach and Sam Houston Watkins. She was educated in the Linn Flat and Trawick public schools until her father decided that she and younger sister Wilma should attend the Thomas J. Rusk Demonstration School on the Stephen F. Austin State College campus and the family moved to Nacogdoches.

Aline was always an outstanding scholar and shared top honors at her high school graduation. She was also president of her senior class and associate editor of the school newspaper, The Pine Sapling. Continuing her education at Stephen F. Austin, she was always in the highest of scholastic echelons and was a member of the honor society Alpha Chi and the spirit organization, Lumberjackettes.

After graduating in 1935, she entered the University of Texas at Austin to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and pledged Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Using her accounting skills, she was a long-time bookkeeping department employee of Waukesha Industries.

Her true love was travel and she was able to see much of the world that fascinated her. Her travels took her throughout the US, to Europe, the Mediterranean, Nova Scotia, Alaska, Guatemala, Mexico and even camel caravans in Egypt. Unfortunately, her travels were curtailed when her eyesight failed but she continued spreading joy to friends and family in Houston, the State and beyond.

She is survived by her sister, Wilma Watkins Fuller of Fort Worth, niece Francelle Fuller Franks and husband, Bud; niece Patricia Fuller Meadows and husband Bill; great nieces and nephews Courtney, Chris, Walker and Hannah; two great, great nephews Carter and Sam; and one great, great niece Arden, all of whom she adored.
