Friends of the Public Library Membership Drive

The Friends of the Nacogdoches Public Library wants you! The group offers many opportunities for getting involved in your community, and you can determine the nature and extent of your involvement, with options that range from active involvement and advisory support to the donation of nominal annual membership dues. “The Friends of the Library help us realize our vision for programs and more,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “They were the original proponents of library services in our city, and they’re now looking to the future to make sure that the Nacogdoches Public Library stays vibrant, relevant, and plugged in to the community.” The Friends are currently seeking additional members to be actively involved in areas such as outreach, children’s literacy support, social media engagement, and the assisted living center bookmobile. “We’ve been lucky to have such a great organization supporting us for all of these years,” says Mercedes Franks, library director. “And now we’re excited at the prospect of hearing from new members.” Interested parties may inquire at the library, call 936-559-2970 for information, or visit www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us/library and follow the link to the Friends of the Library section.

Technology Help at the Public Library

The Nacogdoches Public Library offers year-round technology help with phones, devices, laptops, and more. The Book-a-Librarian program invites any community to set up an appointment with a friendly librarian for a 15 minute to half hour one-on-one session to learn how to use a device or get tech advice. “We’ve found that people’s technological needs and concerns are changing, so we want to make sure that we’re offering the best service,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “We’re moving away from lots of group classes and our weekly Tech Triage in favor of a more personalized one-on-one approach.” Computer classes will continue to be offered for programs such as Microsoft Excel and Publisher. Anyone may call 936-559-2970 to schedule a time to meet with an available staff person.
