BluuBeams at the Public Library

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library recently installed a new information delivery system that will help patrons discover things that matter to them based on their location in the building. BluuBeam is a proximity-triggered messaging system that conveys brief communications to phones within a certain distance. Tiny devices that are simple to update and move allow library staff to passively alert patrons to information that they may need. “We are really excited to have a quick and user-friendly way to let patrons know what we have available, either the next event or class coming up or the latest database we’ve obtained,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “If a patron visits the children’s area, for example, they might receive an alert about a S.T.E.A.M workshop that evening.” Library visitors need only to download the free BluuBeam app, which is available on multiple platforms and devices, and they may opt out at any time. “We’re very excited about the possibilities, and this product is just an example of the library’s mission to stay abreast or ahead of current technology,” says Hicks. Please contact the library at 936-559-2970 or simply download the app and try it for yourself during your next library visit.
