The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites children ages 7 to 11 to participate in a STEAM 4 KIDS program on Thursday, September 29th at 5:30 p.m. Participants will let their imaginations run wild as they explore the world of 3-D art. The Judy B. McDonald Public Library is excited to offer STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) programs for children ages 7-11 this fall. By offering such programming, the public library strives to provide an informal environment where children can become engaged in fun, hands-on learning activities in the STEAM disciplines. STEAM programs will be offered every Thursday from 5:30 – 6:30pm. All programming is free to the public, but we ask that you register ahead of time so we will be prepared with adequate materials.

Bring Your Own Book Game Night at the Public Library

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites adults to a brand new game night, Bring Your Own Book, on Friday, September 30th at 5:30 p.m. The game is an entertaining contest of borrowed phrases. Each participant brings an old favorite book and draws a category card. Then, they’ll use the book to find an entertaining phrase that fits the prompt. Each round has a judge, and the results may range from the hilarious to the profound! “We love to host games, and our favorites are indie or new games that are likely to be fresh experiences for most people,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “In this case, the library is the perfect setting because players don’t have to actually bring anything. We’ve got plenty of books from which to choose!” Please call 936-559-2970 to RSVP.

Makerspace: Animation and Film Studio at the Public Library

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites ages 10 and up to a Makerspace workshop on Wednesday, October 5th at 5:30 p.m. In this workshop, we’ll explore green screen video and new techniques to make your movies more awesome! “We’ve done stop motion and live action stop motion,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “But that’s just scratching the surface. We’ve got some new equipment and fun apps to try out.” Please call 559-2970 to register.

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library is thrilled to continue and expand the Makerspace program for tweens and teens. Makers are a collaborative community of all ages who share a passion for making things and who are engaged in experimentation, innovation and creativity. The Public Library’s Makerspace merges DIY, craft, art, electronics, programming, math, science and engineering into projects for both young people and their mentors. The goal is to support and grow the Maker movement in the local community through experimental play and hands-on creativity. Look for the new space in the library!
