Legendary humorist Bob Murphey CD reprinted and now available for purchase at blueberry festival

Murphey Gayler, Bob Murphey's grandson, holds a CD full of Bob Murphey humor. The CD will be for sale at "The Bob Murphey Bye Bye Blues Show" during the 27th Annual Texas Blueberry Festival presented by Tipton Ford-Lincoln.

Bob Murphey fans will be delighted to learn that they will be able to purchase a CD that contains many of his most famous stories.

The CD is being reissued by Murphey Gayler, grandson of Bob Murphey, for this year’s Texas Blueberry Festival presented by Tipton Ford-Lincoln set for Saturday, June 11 in historic downtown Nacogdoches. The CD will be available for sale during “The Bob Murphey Bye Bye Blues Show” to be performed during the festival at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Regions Bank Hospitality Room. Attendees may enter from Pilar St. on the south side of the bank.

The show, written and produced by Susie Lower, features videos, clips and humor from the Bob Murphey collection. “Originally this festival event was designed as a storytelling competition but it failed to attract enough contestants and lost sight of the person who inspired it. I thought we needed to bring it back to Bob Murphey, to remind people of who he was and reacquaint the public with his wonderful anecdotal humor which is still funny today”

The show is enlivened by live musical entertainment from “the good old days” provided by a local music group known as “the Jive Tones.”

“We could not have done this show without the help of Bob Murphey’s daughter, Reba Jane Gayler who lent us clips and videos and memorabilia from her collection last year,” Lower said. “This year we are delighted that she will be part of the show to share more stories and reminiscences of her famous father. Reba Jane has helped us bring Bob back to life, and we all are so grateful to Murphey Gayler for taking on the project of reprinting one of his grandfather’s best CDs. Last year people asked where they could get a copy, and this year they can purchase one for $15.”
