At 1:40 pm this afternoon, a robbery alarm was received by the Nacogdoches Police Department from the Texas Bank, located at 500 North Street. Consolidated Dispatch also received a 9-1-1 call indicating that the facility had just been robbed.

Upon arrival, officers learned that at shortly before the alarm was activated, a male suspect entered the bank and approached a teller. The suspect demanded money and was given an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect left the bank on foot, travelling southerly between buildings along North Street.

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 30’s early 40’s. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle exit a parking lot on North Fredonia shortly after the robbery. A Nacogdoches police officer reported seeing a vehicle matching this description travelling easterly on East Main.

Several minutes later, a San Augustine Police Department officer stopped a vehicle on Hwy 21 in San Augustine County that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. NPD officers travelled to San Augustine and have arrested a suspect in this case.

The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time, due to the fact that formal charges have not been filed. The case is being turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
