The Leadership Nacogdoches 2014-15 class has chosen a project that will impact families throughout the county – remodel the Child Protective Services (CPS) visitation room.

“The room is where children play, where families can be together in a difficult time and where children can visit with future family members,” said LN class member Claire Robbins. “This room needs to be as inviting and comfortable as possible and show all children that we care about them.”

After several visits to the room and conversations with CPS Supervisor II Shelia Crocker, the LN class determined they will need at the least paint, flooring, window treatment, furniture, electronic equipment, toys, shelving and other items that will transform the room into a comfortable, welcoming space with areas for play and for visitation.

The 26-member class is ready to physically work together to create the designed room, but is seeking financial and product donations needed to complete the project.

“I believe many of my fellow business people and other citizens will want to help lighten the day of these very vulnerable children,” said LN class member Grace Handler.

The project will be completed by the class graduation ceremony on May 15.

“We hope our project will bring good experiences to people in our community, and we are ready to roll up our sleeves and start to work,” Robbins said.
