CELL PHONE ORDINANCE RUMOR UNTRUE

The Nacogdoches Police Department has recently received inquiries about the use of cell phones while driving inside the city limits. It was recently reported on the web and on several facebook posts that Nacogdoches had passed an ordinance prohibiting cell phone use by drivers that became effective January 1st. This is simply not true.

Nacogdoches does have a city ordinance prohibiting electronic messaging while driving, and this ordinance has been in effect for several years. Nacogdoches Police do enforce the Texas State law prohibiting cell phone usage in school zones when not hands free.
