Old-Fashioned Sweet Tooth Sugarcane Event

Old-Fashioned Sweet Tooth Sugarcane Event

The City of Nacogdoches will hold their annual Old-Fashioned Sweet Tooth Sugarcane Event at the Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens on Saturday, January 10, 2015, from 8:00 AM until Noon. The property will come to life and resemble life in the 1800’s – when sugarcane pressing was a community wide event. We will press our own homegrown sugarcane using an 1860’s, mule powered, sugarcane mill. The sugarcane juice will then be boiled down into ribbon cane syrup for all to see.

We will have many other demonstrations and hands-on activities including blacksmithing, a spinning demonstration, pioneer crafts, live string music from the Attoyac Valley String Ensemble, and of course tours of the Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens. The Nacogdoches Kiwanis Club will be selling pancakes and all the fixins’ for $5.00 per plate. The Sugarcane pressing will begin at 8:30 am, so arrive early if you would like to see mule at work.

Come join us and bring your family, friends, and anyone who has a love of history or sweets, to the Durst Taylor Historic House and Gardens -Old Fashion Sweet Tooth Sugarcane event.
