DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE/MANHUNT AREA OF TOWNSEND AVENUE IN NACOGDOCHES

Nacogdoches Police Department investigated a burglary call at a residence in the 900 block of Townsend Avenue in the early morning hours of 12/10/2014. Reportedly, a known suspect had entered the residence and threatened the occupant with a weapon. At this particular call, a suspect was identified but had fled the scene before officers arrived.

This morning at 9:57 am, the Nacogdoches Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the same residence. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nacogdoches Fire Department and the NPD.

This afternoon at 1:17 pm, the occupant of the residence called officers back to report that a piece of evidence in the original burglary call had been located. NPD officers responded, and upon arrival, learned that the suspect in the burglary case had just been seen inside a wood line behind the residence, and had reportedly pointed a firearm at an occupant of the house. The initial responding officer attempted to locate the suspect, but could not. All available on-duty NPD officers responded to the area, and quickly established a perimeter roughly bounded by Wells Street, South Fredonia, Loop 224, and West Seale. Officers from the TX DPS, Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s office, constables and NISD Police also arrived to assist.

After conducting a search for approximately two hours, the suspect was located hiding in a large culvert on private property near the south end of Reedy Street. He was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered two firearms, a rifle and a shotgun nearby.

Bright Coop Company, which is located in the immediate area, was notified and asked to shelter in place.

Arrested in this incident was Gregory William Sisson, age 27, of Lufkin. He is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. Other charges may be forthcoming. The investigation is continuing.
