SFA introducing English language program for area residents

Stephen F. Austin State University is pleased to announce the debut of a new, intensive English language program for the Nacogdoches community.

The English Language Institute within the Office of International Programs will begin offering a non-credit series of courses for non-native English speakers who would like to improve their skills for personal or professional reasons.

The program is part of an existing set of courses aimed at international SFA students who need intensive English education. Community members interested in the program can take as many as four courses, about 20 hours of instruction per week for a 14-week period, which include conversation hours, computer lab time and formal instruction in writing, speaking, reading, grammar and vocabulary. Most classes will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tuition will be $2,190.50, about half the cost of regular SFA tuition. Students may take fewer hours for $547 per 14-week course. Text books will cost about $50 per class.

The program will be offered beginning with the fall 2014 semester. Students will be evaluated by staff members and then placed in the appropriate level of classes based on their skills. Through this program, students also will have access to the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Norton H.P.E. Complex rec center, and the Steen Library and computer labs.
