Nearly 100 middle school students from more than a dozen area school districts are attending iMAS (Investigations in Math and Science) Academy this week at Stephen F. Austin State University. SFA STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) faculty members are guiding students in the discovery of academic skills necessary for future STEM careers. Students are working collaboratively to solve real-world problems as they work through modules such as Crime Solvers (CSI), ER, Magic Cone (conics) and What’s in Your Water. Pictured, from left, are SFA nursing student Hanna Hudson, Huntington Middle School student Cason Young, Lufkin Middle School student Sam Ellisor, Harlingen Middle School student Jimi Abbott and SFA nursing student Katy Trotty. The middle school students were learning how to start an IV on patient simulators in SFA’s Richard and Lucille DeWitt School of Nursing.
