Chamber lunch focus: tourism is big business

The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce Fourth Friday Luncheon presented by Domus Development moves to third Friday on May 16 and clears your Memorial Day weekend. Jannette Watts, media and community relations coordinator, Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau, will present “Tourism Impact on Nacogdoches.”

“Tourism plays such a vital role in the Nacogdoches economy,” said Chamber Chair Rayanne DuChane. “We are fortunate to have an active convention and visitors bureau that seeks ways to bring more traffic to town. We look forward to hearing an update on the CVB activities.”

At the Nacogdoches CVB, Watts is responsible for spreading the word about local events and promoting the town to visitors. She is also responsible for the recruitment, scheduling and retention of volunteers to staff conventions, events and the Visitor Center.

Watts has deep ties to Nacogdoches with her family being in the area since receiving a Spanish land grant. She was born and raised in Nacogdoches. After high school, she moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, and while there she interned in the advertising department at TEXAS Monthly. Following her internship, she began her career in marketing holding such positions as account manager at Austin public relations firm DSPR, Inc. where Dickies workwear was one of her accounts, director of advertising at 512 Magazine, an Austin city-zine and in marketing at communication at BuildASign, LLC.

“In 2010 I decided to move back to Nacogdoches to be closer to my family and the farm,” Watts said. “I joined the CVB team in 2012, and I have loved every minute of it, because I love telling people about a town that is dear to my heart.” She spends her spare time with her family, playing out at the farm that has been in her family for more than 100 years.
