ABANDONING/ENDANGERING A CHILD; 2000 BLOCK OF BEVERLY STREET

On the morning of May 7th, NPD officers contacted Carlos Gatlin, 28 of Nacogdoches, walking in the 2400 block of South Street. Officers were aware that Gatlin was wanted on a grand jury warrant for burglary.

Upon confirming the warrant, officers placed Gatlin into custody. Gatlin informed officers that his two children were at home alone and needed to be checked on.

Officers went to a residence in the 2000 block of Beverly Street. Upon entering, officers located a two year old female asleep in the living room. Officers also found a six month old female, secured in a car seat, in a bedroom closet. There was not an adult present at the residence.

Child protective services was notified and responded to the scene and took custody of the children. As a precaution, both children were taken to a local hospital for a medical examination.

Gatlin was charged with two counts of felony abandoning/endangering a child. He was taken to the Nacogdoches County Jail.

The mother of the children was at work at the time of the incident.

The case remains under investigation by NPD Detectives and CPS workers.
