NEWS RELEASE: OFFICERS ARREST TWO IN SUNDAY MORNING ROBBERY

Two men are in custody following an early morning armed robbery of a Nacogdoches convenience store.
Shortly after 8:00 am Sunday morning, Nacogdoches police received a call that the Valero at 3003 Durst Street had been robbed at gunpoint by a masked man. Officers had a description of the suspect, who was last seen leaving the store on foot, northbound in the parking lot.
Immediately upon arrival, officers noticed a vehicle leaving the parking lot of the West Side Baptist Church, which is located adjacent to the rear of the store. Officers stopped this vehicle, and found Kenneth Wayne Boyd, 39, of Shelbyville to be the sole occupant. He was found in possession of PCP and crack cocaine.
While officers were out with this vehicle, residents of Westview Street called the police reporting a suspicious male walking in the 1800 block of Westview Street. Officers responded to this call, and contacted Derrick Dewayne Johnson, 30, of Center. Johnson matched the description of the person who had just robbed the store, and officers found evidence of the crime on his
person. It is believed that Boyd and Johnson were working together in robbing the store.
Both of these individuals remain in the Nacogdoches County Jail, charged with aggravated robbery. Boyd also is charged with possession of a controlled substance.
“The officers involved in this robbery investigation are to be commended for their effective work”, said NPD Chief Jim Sevey. “Also the telecommunicators on duty with the Nacogdoches Consolidated Dispatch Center did a wonderful job relaying information to the officers in a quick and efficient manner”.

There were no injuries reported in this incident.
