The Stephen F. Austin State University horticulture judging team recently competed in the J.B. Storey Horticulture Judging Contest at the annual American Society for Horticultural Science Southern Region conference in Dallas.

The SFA judging team captured third place overall by placing second in greenhouse floral and foliage; second in woody ornamentals; and third in vegetable crops.

Waxahachie junior Jordan McGee was reserve high point individual, and she also placed third in woody ornamentals. Amny Rose, a sophomore from Clifton, placed third in greenhouse floral and foliage.

SFA Gardens Research Associate Dawn Stover attended this year’s conference with the team. “I am proud of how these students represented SFA horticulture,” she said. “For them to come home with these honors is a testament to the caliber of students and the quality of education we have at SFA.”

The SFA Horticulture Club and judging team is housed in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture. For more information, contact the SFA Horticulture Club adviser, Dr. Jeff Adkins, at (936) 468-3705 or adkinsja@sfasu.edu.
