Joy Smith passed in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, October 25, 2013. She was the beloved daughter of Jessie and Nellie Johnson of Garrison, Texas, whom have preceded her in eternal rest.
After many years at Mize Department Store she retired. She was a member of First Assembly of God and very active in the church—she taught Sunday School and had a nursing home ministry. She loved serving the Lord.
Ms. Smith is survived by her loving sister, Marciel Baker; and her four children, Sharon Green, David Garcia, Carlos Garcia, and Sandy Tarpley. She was also blessed with fifteen grandkids and twenty-eight great-grandkids. Sharing in her passing is her beloved son, Butch Alexander; her brother, Buck Johnson; and her three sisters, Avis Alexander, Valerie McShan and Lorene Setliff.
Joy leaves behind a legacy of love that her children and their children can pass on. There is no coincidence that her name was Joy because she always had a smile, hug and encouraging word. Her whole life she witnessed every chance she could. There were no strangers only another lost soul she could witness to about our Lord.
She will be greatly missed but her memory will live on. She is finally at home in the arms of Jesus serenaded by angels and saying well done my precious daughter.
Joy’s service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North St. in Nacogdoches. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
