Man charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child

The Nacogdoches county sheriff office has arrested a Nacogdoches man for aggravated sexual assault of a child a felony of the 1st degree. Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that the investigation started on October 13, 2013 when the mother of the victim noticed something wrong with her child. The child was then taken to memorial hospital for medical treatment.
The sheriff office was notified and responded to memorial hospital for an investigation. Investigators then set up a forensic exam and interview with the victim at the Harold House. Investigators with the Sheriff office gained probable cause for a warrant for the arrest of the suspect in the case, Jose Ignacio Lopez. Lopez was arrested at his work on October 17, 2013. The victim in this case is younger than six years of age. Lopez is a relative of the victim who was babysitting the child at the time of the assault.
Sheriff Bridges stated that as a result of the assault, the child has contracted a sexually transmitted disease from the suspect in this case. The child is receiving medical attention for that. Bridges stated that the sheriff office is having blood test conducted on the suspect as well. More charges will be filed when we receive the results of that test for endangering a child due to the sexually transmitted disease.

Jose Lopez, 19 years of age was arrested and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
