Nacogdoches man arrested for aggravated assault

The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office has arrested a Nacogdoches man for aggravated assault at his residence located on highway 7 east.
Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that deputies responded to the Nacogdoches County Memorial Hospital last night in reference to an assault victim. The victim had been severely beaten, had internal injuries and several broken bones. The victim is currently being treated in ICU as a result of those injuries.
Sheriff Deputies were able to identify the suspect in the assault who is the husband to the victim. Deputies went to the residence around 1:00 am this morning but were unable to locate the suspect. A warrant for the suspect was obtained around 8:30 am for aggravated assault. Sheriff Investigators went back to the residence around 10:00 am and found the suspect sleeping inside the residence where he was taken into custody.
Sheriff Bridges stated that the details of this case are still sketchy as to why the assault took place, but believes that alcohol and mental health issues may have played a factor into the suspect actions. The victim was able to escape the residence late last night by crawling out of a window of the residence and then calling a family member who transported her to the hospital.
David Buchanan 59 years of age was arrested for aggravated assault (Family Violence) a 2nd felony and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
