Community, SFA plan trip to state capitol

The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs committee members have worked for months to organize Nacogdoches-SFA Days in Austin presented by Norbord Texas Nacogdoches, Inc.

“The groups will be in Austin on Feb. 20 and 21, and we are putting together our legislative agenda in preparation for our meetings at the capitol,” said committee chair Scarlett Sloane. “We expect to hear a transportation update from Commissioner Jeff Austin, and we will meet with Texas Education Agency Commissioner Michael Williams to discuss public education. The groups will also meet with Senator Robert Nichols and Representative Travis Clardy.”

A reception for legislators, staff and agencies, hosted by the Chamber and SFA, is Feb. 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Austin Omni Hotel Downtown.

A Texas Legislative Budget Update with John Opperman, special advisor for fiscal policy, office of Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, is scheduled on Feb. 21.

Nacogdoches-SFA Days in Austin is open to all in the East Texas area. Attendees are responsible for travel and lodging expenses, but there are no admission fees for the meetings and reception.
