Obituary: Gwen Layton Meador

Mrs. Gwen Layton Meador, age 83, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Nacogdoches Medical Center.
Mrs. Meador was born January 21, 1929, in Chireno to parents Grad Layton and Elsie Mae (Crawford) Layton. She had been a longtime resident of the Etoile and Chireno areas.
She took great pride in her family. Gwen enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was very supportive in whatever things they were involved with. She always saw the best in everyone and never met a stranger. Her family loved her great cooking. She was also an avid reader and devoted viewer of the television show, Jeopardy.
Survivors include her sons, Charles W. Meador and wife Marsha of Melrose, Jerry L. Meador and wife Tracey of Melrose, and Larry G. Meador and Cyndi of Huntington; daughters, Carolyn Cox and husband Lane of Woden and Marvis Johnson and husband Gary of Nacogdoches; sister, Bonnie Mae Clark of Crosby; brothers, Harold Donald “Don” Layton and wife Judy of Elgin and Grady Wayne Layton of Woden; and sisters-in-law, Charlsie Burnaman of Chireno and Nelda Rupert and husband Ken of Etoile; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was known fondly as “Maw Maw” to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Meador, on February 16, 2003; daughter, Deannie Meador, on February 24, 2005; a grandson, Matthew Steven Meador, on June 6, 2009; brother, Gradys Eugene “Gene” Layton, on October 22, 2000; and brother-in-law, Loith Burnaman, on November 20, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches with Bro. Glenn D. Morton and Bro. Reagan Sewell officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery in Etoile, TexasP.
Pallbearers: grandsons Mark Meador, Jacob Meador, Jason Meador and Chester Johnson; and great-grandsons Charles Tyler Simpson and Dustin Whisenhunt. Honorary pallbearers: grandchildren Michael Cox, Rebecca Wells, Cindy Parmer, Jennifer Meador, Savannah Meador, Sherri Taylor, and Kim Jackson.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 28, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
