Obituary: George Samuel Burt, Sr.

George Samuel Burt, Sr., 91, of the Libby Community passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Mr. Burt was born in Nacogdoches on February 13, 1921 to parents P.C. and Mollie Powers Burt.
George worked for DuPont Chemical in La Porte, Texas where and retired after 25 years. He would go on to raise broiler chickens for the next 40 years for various companies, as each company was sold to another company; most recently he work for Tyson Foods.
George is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; son, Kenneth Earl Burt.
He was married and is survived by Rosia Edwards Burt; two sons, George Samuel Burt, Jr. and his wife Ann, Robert Wayne Burt; two grandsons, Matt Burt and his wife Theresa, Ross Burt; one granddaughter, Jennifer Prigge and her husband Brent; one great grandson, Brody Burt; brother, Acie Burt; sister, Katherine Brady and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters- in- laws, Elsie Carrigan and her husband James, Jackie Fountain, Dian Crawford and Benda Edwards.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches with Bro. Tyrone Spencer and Bro. John Bingham officiating. Interment will follow at Libby Cemetery.
Friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 5-7 pm at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
Acting pallbearers will be Matt Burt, Troy Burt, Ross Burt, Gerald Brady, Brent Prigge and W.C. “Shorty” Burt. Honorary pallbearers will be Muncie Powers, Bob Burt and Justin Bass.
Memorial contributions may be made, in honor of Mr. Burt, to Libby Cemetery Fund c/o Peggy Burt, PO 1326 CR 271, Garrison, Texas 75946.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Pokola and his staff, Memorial hospital and their staff, Garrison Nursing Home and Hospice of East Texas who loving caring for George during his final journey.
