Obituary: Naoma Carolyn McMinn

     Naoma Carolyn McMinn, 75, of Katy peacefully passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012.

     She was born on March 19, 1937 in Nacogdoches to parents Bennett Arthur Gray and Oma Sue (Parish) Gray.

     A funeral service will be at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 18, with Pastor Rick Russell of Grace Church of San Augustine officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Nacogdoches County.

     Naoma is preceded in death by her parents; brother, George Gray; sister, Mary Lou Martin.

     She is survived by her son, Jon Gray and wife Susanne; daughters, Rebecca Shahmansoorian and husband Tony, Patricia James; grandson, Andrew James; granddaughters, Maya Shahmansoorian, Courtney James, Shelby James; sisters, Molly Hoke, Jean Webber, and numerous nieces and nephews.

     Naoma was a wonderful woman, a beautiful mother and an exciting teacher. She had a smile that would light up any room. She loved to paint draw and read. Her artistic passion showed up in all that she did, and added to the drama of her story telling. No joy was more complete to her than having all of her family together. Her family and friends will remember her “selfless” nature and her ability to be funny and silly. She was a graduate of Sam Houston State University and spent most of her career teaching elementary students in the New Caney area.

     Visitation will be from 1 pm- 2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

    With heartfelt memories, I cherish my friendship with Carolyn during our
    younger years. Our lives were distanced by life’s new ventures….
    but throughout the years, she has remained special in my heart.
