Obituary: Odis Dean Mashburn

     Odis Dean Mashburn, 79, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in Nacogdoches. He was born on March 6, 1933 to parents, Daniel Demp Mashburn and Myrtle Still Mashburn in Laneville, Texas. His funeral service will be on Saturday, July 14 at 10:00 am at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with Bro. John Orr of First Baptist Church in Mt. Enterprise officiating. Eulogy will be offered by Marty Grounds. Military rites by the United States Army will be conducted at Cason Monk-Metcalf Chapel. Interment will follow at Holleman Cemetery in Laneville, Texas

     He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 52 years, Carol Mashburn; brothers, Floyd and Preston Mashburn; sister, Annie Faye Lyles.

     Odis is survived by son, Randy Mashburn and wife Ginger of Mont Belvieu, Texas; daughter, Lana Porter and husband Wesley of Mt Enterprise; grandson, Dakota Porter, granddaughters, Macy Mashburn, Bailey Porter; sister, Wilma Houghton of Fredricksburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

     When we think of Odis our hearts will remember what a wonderful father he was. He never met a stranger and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Odis was energetic, caring, knowledgeable, devoted, determined and dedicated to his family. He was a strong Christian who lived and walked out his values. He was an active member of the Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing with his family. Odis retired from a job he loved for over 40 years at Dresser Industry, as Air tool Director of Field Sales . He proudly served his country in the United States Army from December 1953 to November 1955 in Germany. He left this world a better place because he was here and will be greatly missed by those who were part of his life.

     Pallbearers will be Jody White, Steve Webb, Cliff Weems, Jay Porter, Frank Newcomb and Ray Gene Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will include, Gene Webb, Ross King, Seth Stein and Phillip Stein.

     Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, July 13 at Cason Monk-Metcalf from 5-7pm. Memorial donations may be offered to First United Methodist Church, US-84 & W 2nd Street Mt.
