Nacogdoches Naturally will host a Weekend Family Outdoor Adventure from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Lake Nacogdoches. The family day is sponsored by the Stephen F. Austin State University Pineywoods Native Plant Center and will offer participants the opportunity to enjoy water activities and share food with family and friends.
The event is part of a series of Weekend Family Outdoor Adventure activities being funded by a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Community Outdoor Outreach Program. For the Lake Nacogdoches activity, each family is asked to bring a picnic lunch. There will be outdoor games, swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking available. Equipment will be provided, but families also are welcome to bring personal gear.
“We have had a very successful year with numerous family events and field trips, and we have been able to connect with many families,” said Kerry Lemon, project director of Nacogdoches Naturally. “It has been a wonderful opportunity to play outside with these families and encourage them to spend quality family time in the beautiful natural areas of East Texas.”
Families are invited to meet at 10 a.m. at Lake Nacogdoches West Entrance Park Pavilion No. 2 located off FM 225 west of Nacogdoches. There is a $5 fee per family. Some limited transportation will be available as needed. For more information or to register, e-mail Lemons at lemonkb@ sfasu.edu. Early registration is recommended.
