Mass of Christian Burial services for Thomas Stephen Luna, age 74, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10 A.M., Monday, April 2, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Monsignor, James E. Young, officiating and burial to follow in Moral Cemetery in Nacogdoches. He was born December 29, 1937 in Nacogdoches, Texas, the son of Jack and Laney Poskey Luna and passed away March 30, 2012.
Thomas Luna grew up in the Moral community of Nacogdoches County. He was a graduate of Nacogdoches High School, class of 1956 where he was a letterman in both football and baseball. He married Jane Prado on January 20, 1962 and they celebrated 50 years together this past January.
Tom was the proud owner and operator of Luna’s South Street Exxon for over 35 years where he met and served many friends. He truly enjoyed talking with his loyal customers each day.
Tom enjoyed gardening, listening to country music and watching his favorite western television shows. He looked forward to attending SFA football and basketball games. He loved visiting with friends and spending time with his family, especially the numerous events involving his grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Moral, where he served as a Eucharistic minister; he was also an active volunteer at many church events and activities. He was a member of the 56ers (NHS class of 1956) and enjoyed reminiscing with former classmates about the “glory days” of Dragon football.
In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, Jane Prado Luna, Tom is survived by his sons, Michael S. Luna and Tina Rogers of Bardstown, Kentucky, and Matthew A. and wife, Teresa S. Luna of Nacogdoches, Texas; daughter, J. Melissa Wright and husband, Thomas E. of Boerne, Texas; grandchildren, Marc Luna of Tempe, Arizona, Ethan and Evan Wright of Boerne, Texas, Caitlin and Cade Luna of Nacogdoches, Texas; brothers, Robert Luna of Lufkin, Texas, Lonnie Luna and wife, Mary Jane Luna of Nacogdoches, Texas, Johnny Luna and wife, Lorraine of Euless, Texas; sisters, Maria Bullock of Nacogdoches, Texas and Marie Cure and husband, Bobby of Ft. Worth, Texas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Louis Luna and James Luna, and sister, Velma Crow.
Pallbearers will be Cade Luna, Evan Wright, Ethan Wright, Marc Luna, Rick Luna, Charles Montes, Ramon Munoz, and Brad Williamson; honorary pallbearers will be Coot Brandon, Robin Dawley, Gary Stripling, Darrell Witten, members of the NHS Class of 1956 and all former employees of Luna’s Exxon.
Visitation with Tom’s family will be from 5 until 7 P.M., Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Laird Funeral Home, in Nacogdoches. A Rosary will follow visitation at 7:00 PM.
