Weaver Street Dedication Set

Arthur Weaver helped found the Nacogdoches Chapter of NAACP, organized the Nacogdoches County Voter’s League and the Nacogdoches County Community Foundation. Mr. Weaver’s homestead is located on the corner of Martin Luther King Drive, and Lucas Street. Recently a request was made to rename Lucas Street in honor of Mr. Weaver. The request was submitted to the recently formed “Naming Committee.” The committee’s recommendation was heard and approved by the Nacogdoches City Council last month. “It is our privilege to be able to honor Mr. Weaver and his accomplishments in this way,” said Mayor Roger Van Horn.

Arthur Weaver Street will officially be dedicated on Thursday, March 15th at 2:30 p.m. at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Lucas Street. The entire community is invited to join us as we officially change Lucas Street in honor of Mr. Weaver. Mr. Weaver’s accomplishments in Nacogdoches helped and continue to help countless individuals. Mr. Weaver once said “It’s not the good things you do in life for yourself that count. It’s the good things you do in life for others that count.”

Other requests can be made to the City of Nacogdoches Naming Committee by contacting the City Manager’s office at 936-559-2502 for a list of guidelines. For questions on the renaming of Lucas Street to Arthur Weaver Street please contact Jan Pigg at 936-559-2502.
