Obituary: Darrell Kenney

     Darrell Ray Kenney, 55, of Nacogdoches, Texas, went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2011. He was born in Pasadena, Texas the son of Shelby Ray Kenney and Beverley Ann Kenney on May 8, 1956. A superior framing and trim carpenter for over 40 years, he began working in Jonesville, Louisiana at the age of 15. Darrell built many houses and worked in several establishments in the Nacogdoches/Lufkin area over the past 30 years. He was a perfectionist in his craft. Darrell loved his work, playing guitar, jet boat, snow skiing, horses and spending time with his family. He never met a stranger and no matter how busy he was, he would drop everything to help someone in need. Darrell loved his children and dancing to country music more than anything.

     He is survived by his father, Shelby Ray Kenney and wife, Joyceanne Kenney of Nacogdoches, Texas; brothers, Carl Dwain Kenney of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Shelby Dale Kenney and wife, Cheryl of Deer Park, Texas; children, Shelley Champlin of Jonesville, Louisiana, Shane Kenney of Liberty, Texas, Morgan Kenney and Austin Kenney of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren, Jessie Williamson and Cole Williamson of Jonesville, Louisiana. Darrell was preceded in death by his mother, Beverley Ann Kenney of Nacogdoches and grandparents, Carl Kenney of Jonesville, Louisiana, Elaine and George Poteet of Pasadena, Texas, and Dortha Lee Griffin of Nacogdoches, Texas.

     A visitation will be held at Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches, Texas on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 5 until 7 PM. Service for Darrell will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches, Texas, with Pastor Buddy Leach of Palestine, Texas officiating. Darrell will be laid to rest at Harmony Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas.
