Crimestopper’s band to perform on the red brick streets during First Friday Nights

Downtown Nacogdoches is looking forward to the upcoming First Friday Cruise Night event, which returns to the “Oldest Town in Texas” this Friday, September 2, 2011. Classic cars will line the Plaza Principal on Pilar Street from Pecan to Fredonia beginning at 6 p.m. and will cruise until 8 p.m. Several downtown stores will also stay open late until eight for your shopping convenience. A list of participating merchants will be available to be picked up at The Heart of Texas, 110 S. Pecan on Friday.

The Crime Stoppers Band is a non-profit, volunteer group of Lufkin Police officers.

The Crimestopper’s Band from Lufkin will be performing on the Plaza Principal stage from 6 to 8 p.m. “We are so excited to host the Crimestopper’s Band for this month’s First Friday Night,” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien. “They always put on a great show that is fun for the entire family.” The Crime Stoppers Band is a non-profit, volunteer group of Lufkin Police officers. Having been formed 1987, the group rivals all amateur and professional groups for longevity, and provides entertainment to nursing homes, schools, fairs, reunions and many other community events. The musical group is sponsored by Crime Stoppers of Lufkin, Inc. and accepts donations for that organization. The band plays a variety of music including country, rock and roll, swing, blues and jazz. They have played for over 110,000 people and have traveled as far away as Illinois, Louisiana and throughout central and east Texas.

The Old Towne General Store will also be outside on the Plaza Principal grilling up hamburgers and hot dogs, “Be sure to bring your appetite downtown on Friday,” said O’Brien. In addition, Hotel Fredonia, 200 N. Fredonia will have live entertainment on the patio, and J McKinney’s will have some delicious fare on the menu.

Also going on this Friday, as part of its monthly independent film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present their monthly “First Friday Film Series.”
