Obituary: Joy Barnett French

     Services for Joy Barnett French, 79, of Nacogdoches, Texas, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 11, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, Nacogdoches, with Dr. Allen Reed and Rev. Brad Haile officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Nacogdoches.

     Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel.

     Joy was born to Leonard and Alice Barnett at Oakwood in Leon County, Texas, on November 29, 1931, and passed away on August 8, 2011, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

     She graduated from Centerville High School in 1948 and Texas State College for Women (Texas Womans University) in Denton, Texas. Joy moved to Nacogdoches in 1973 when her husband’s job with International Paper Company was transferred here. She was a public school teacher for over 38 years, the last 23 years at Alto Elementary School in Alto, Texas.

     Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Calvin S. French; her sister, Jo Oden; and her niece Shirley Ellis.

     Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and David Mackey of Nacogdoches; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Amy French of Colleyville, Texas; three granddaughters, Rebecca Canfield of Nacogdoches, Lauren Mackey of Dalhart, Texas, Madeline French of Colleyville; and a grandson, William French of Colleyville.

     Joy was a member of the S.O.S. Class at FBC Nacogdoches. The family wants to extend their thanks and appreciation to each member of the class for the love and care they showed to Joy. The family would also like to thank Dr. Dennis Coffman and his staff for their loving care and Joy’s friends and neighbors on Lake Forest Drive for their support and concern.

     Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church, 411 North St., Nacogdoches, TX 75961-5045.
