First Friday Nights returns to the red brick streets this Friday

     Downtown Nacogdoches is looking forward to the return of First Friday Night’s, which is back from its Summer break this Friday, August 5, 2011. “First Friday Cruise Nights is a great opportunity to bring the family or your date downtown for something different to do, a film screening, late night shopping and a car show? What more could one ask for?” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien.

The Visitors Center will be open late on Friday evening for First Friday Night patrons to take a break to beat the heat.

     Classic cars will line the Plaza Principal on Pilar Street from Pecan to Fredonia beginning at 6 p.m. and will cruise until 8 p.m. The Nacogdoches Convention & Visitor’s Bureau will also be open for visitors or residents who want to take a break from the heat and need information on what to do this weekend.

Several downtown merchants will also be open late this Friday including:
Brick Street Antiques, Fabulous Finds, Lollipops and Lullabies and the Runaway Mule. “We have such a great group of merchant’s downtown,” said O’Brien “be sure to stop in and Shop Nac First this Friday evening.” The Old Towne General Store will also be open for your dining pleasure!

     Also going on this Friday, as part of its monthly independent film series, Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “It Might Get Loud” at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.The 97-minute documentary revolves around a day when three electric guitar virtuosos-Jimmy (Led Zeppelin), The Edge (U2) and Jack White (The White Stripes)-first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play. The film, which was selected for the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival and the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, is rated PG. It is sponsored in part by Friends of the Visual Arts board member Karon Gillespie and Nacogdoches Junior Forum. Cole Art Center is located at 329 E.      Hotel Fredonia, 200 N. Fredonia will also have live entertainment on the patio, and J McKinney’s will have some delicious fare on the menu.
