Obituary: Helen A. Carter

     Funeral services for Helen A. Carter, 100, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Wednesday, July 6th at 10:am and viewing will be on Tuesday, July 5th from 6-8pm at Cason Monk Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Wanda Cuniff, Deacon of Christ Episcopal Church officiating.

     Surrounded by her family and loved ones, Helen was called home to be with her father in heaven on June 30, 2011 where she will help attend his gardens.

     Helen was born August 20, 1910 in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was the daughter of Harmon and Sallie Fore Murrell.

     She and Richard A. Carter were married in Carter County, Oklahoma on October 18, 1929.

     She was such a talented and special lady that had the ability to see Gods wonders and be able to recreate with such splendor. She was so proud of her home that she kept it pristine. Her favorite place was in her yard and garden where she had beautiful flowers and lots of delicious vegetables which she shared generously.

     She was a ready friend and helper in the community and donated her time to many programs. She was a “Meals on Wheels” lady until she was eighty eight and loved visiting the shut-ins and carrying a little cheer to their lonely lives. She helped with her church by baking cakes, helping with bazaars and giving of time for her church. She was known for crocheting crosses and giving them to all who admired and visited. She continued her cross ministry up until the end.

     She joined Christ Episcopal Church in 1949 and enjoyed serving on the “Altar Guild”, “Daughters of the King” and other activities associated with the church.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Carter, a grandson Randall Carter, brother, O. C. Murrell and two sisters, Tessie Phillips and Cleo Mullins.

     She is survived by her son, Richard M. Carter and wife Betty, of Nacogdoches, a special daughter Barbara Scarborough, of Nacogdoches one granddaughter, Anita Moore and husband, Mike, of Pasadena one grandson, Larry Carter and wife Debbie of Nacogdoches, one great granddaughter, Stefanie Kubala and husband Chris, of New Braunfels, one great grandson, Andy Moore and wife Kayla, of Pasadena, one step great grandson, Tim Brownlee, of Corpus Christi one step-great granddaughter, Kristi Parker, of Nacogdoches, one great, great granddaughter, Melanie Kubala, one great, great grandson Grant Kubala and one step great, great granddaughter, Katherine Parker. She is also survived by three sisters: Lois Johnson, of Mt. Enterprise, Opal Adams, of Nacogdoches, Nina Wilson of Nacogdoches and one brother Walter Murrell of Lufkin, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

     Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Larry Carter, Mike Moore, Andy Moore, Chris Kubala, Tim Brownlee and nephew Donnie Lewis.

     Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. B. W. Henderson, Gene Register, Gale Cook, David Carter, Steve Carter and Carl Moore.

     The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. B. W. Henderson, The Arbor and their staff, and LifeCare hospice for the special love and care she received.

     In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 502 E. Starr Avenue, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965 or a charity of your choice.
