Obituary: Ima W. Dickey

     Funeral Service for Ima Lee Windham Dickey, 89, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Laird Funeral Home with Pastor Crispin Bradsher and Brother Bob Little officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches.

Ima W. Dickey

     Mrs. Dickey was born on March 12, 1922 in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin Teacher’s University and worked as a secretary at Memorial Hospital for many years. Ima was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, Texas. She married Walter Lee Dickey, Jr. in Shreveport, LA on May 7, 1944. Walter and Ima enjoyed taking road trips and galavanted to many destinations across the United States. Ima was fantastic at crocheting and sewing. She crocheted afghans and various items for friends and family, and made school clothes for her daughter. She also loved working in her flower beds and was known for having quite a green thumb. Ima was a popular lady, and was well-liked by all her neighbors, fellow residents and staff members at Oak Manor Nursing Home. She was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Ima was a wonderful mother and truly a good soul that will be greatly missed.

     Ima is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Dickey Littleton, of Nacogdoches, TX; a grandson, John P. Dickey and wife Amp, of Bangkok, Thailand; a sister, Nonie Castleberry, of Conroe, TX; and special friend, William Lee Thompson, of Nacogdoches, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Dickey, Jr.; her parents, B and Vernona Burrows Windham; and a grandson; Christopher Lee Bishop.

     Pallbearers will be Scott Moses, Charles Shaver, Dennis Harper, Robert Castleberry, Charles Faulkner, and David Faulkner. Honoary Pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

     Visitation will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 5 – 7PM at Laird Funeral Home.
