1944 – 2011
After a brave 16-year battle with metastatic breast cancer, Georgia Marie Christian passed away on April 28, 2011, having recently celebrated her 67th birthday.
Mrs. Christian was born March 4, 1944, to W.T. and Josephine Strahan Wells, in Houston, Texas.
She lived in Nacogdoches for many years where she first owned the Country Kitchen Café, then managed the Kroger Deli, owned Central Heights Flower Shop, and later worked at Butcher Boys. After living in Nacogdoches for more than 25 years, she moved to Palestine in 2002.
Mrs. Christian is survived by her husband of 38 years, Charles M. Christian of Palestine, formerly of Nacogdoches; and her children, Richard Ray and Roxie Little of Hudson, Robert Scott and Melissa Little of Nacogdoches, Gary Joe and Jody Little of Nacogdoches, Tammy and Roy Johnson of Jacksonville, Charla and Chris Felder of Moscow, and Steven Wayne Little of Beaumont. Surviving grandchildren include Brenna Little, Ashley Little, Mark Little, Jacey Gaddy, Cohl Felder, Carter Felder, Kaylie Goodwin, Sarah Barbey, Rachel Barbey, and Danny Little. She also leaves several siblings, including two brothers, Thomas and Helen Wells of Nacogdoches and Leo and Norma Wells of Magnolia; two half-brothers, Travis and Willis Wells; and a half-sister, Gerri Merrill. Additionally, Mrs. Christian is survived by her mother-in-law, Dell Barnhill, who has been her faithful and loving caregiver for many years. Aunts include Tommie Stanaland, Betty Vanover, Lottie Gardner, and Lucy Hinkle. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins are also left behind.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Proffitt, her step-father, C.B. Proffitt; her father, W.T. Wells; sister, Judy Wells; and two sons, Mark Allen Christian in 1990 and James “Jimbo” Little in 2002.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, 5400 North St., Nacogdoches.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow at Lower Melrose Cemetery in Melrose.
Pallbearers will be Greg Holmes, Richard Johnson, Billy Huddleston, Billy Huddleston Jr., Ray Arriola, and Frank Arriola. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Carter and Norman Langham.
The family of Mrs. Christian would like to extend a special word of thanks to Solaris Healthcare for their kind and compassionate care. They would also like thank the dedicated doctors and nurses at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center who helped in the fight against the disease that finally claimed her life.
