Mr. Lovett was born on January 31, 1925, in Rosedale, Sunflower County, Mississippi to the late John William and Edna Cooper Lovett. He passed away peacefully on January 20, 2011, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Cooper was raised in the Mississippi Delta in Sunflower County. He graduated from Linn High School and attended Lamar University. He moved to Orange, Texas in 1942, where he worked in the ship yards during WWII. He met the love of his life, Connie Coppels and they wed on January 19, 1945, in Orange. Cooper worked for US Steel until he retired after 33 years of service. He went on to work for Lummus Industries and retired from there after 8 years of employment.

Cooper was a wonderful Christian man. He had been a deacon at 1st Baptist Church in Nacogdoches. He an Connie fulfilled their dream to help build and grow Eden Baptist Church. He honored his Lord and Savior by living his life in a Christ-like manner. He read his bible faithfully, was a Lay Preacher, and he and Connie both taught Sunday School. He reached out to his community and his church family when there was a need. Anyone in need was helped without an expectation of anything in return. Whether he was fixing a T.V., fixing someone’s car, mowing a lawn, or assisting those less fortunate than he, Cooper did all these things in Christ’s name and in a Christian spirit.

He was an avid fisherman, loved church work, very sucessfully raised and raced homing pigeons and was mechanically minded. He was a wonderful son, husband, father and grandfather. Everyone who knew Cooper and knew him well, knew what a loss it is to the community and church but are at ease knowing he rests now with his Savior.
