Stephen F. Austin State University’s Center for Research Advancing Identities and Student Experiences is partnering with Information Age Publishing to host a new textbook series titled “Identity and Practice in Higher Education-Student Affairs.”

The series is meant to address critical issues in both higher education and student affairs to contextualize how they relate to the development of college student identity. The first project in the text series, “Working While Black: The Untold Stories of a Student Affairs Practitioner,” featured curated narratives about the experiences of Black student affairs professionals in higher education.

“A second volume is under development because of the success of the first one, which made a significant impact on elucidating professionals’ experiences in higher education,” said Dr. Pietro A. Sasso, SFA RAISE Center director and an assistant professor of human services and educational leadership.

Sasso coordinates the book series with co-editor Dr. Shelley Price-Williams of the University of Northern Iowa. The series will be housed and directed within the RAISE Center as a component of its overall mission.

“We’re excited to establish this partnership as we continue to serve the global academic community with high-quality research projects from around the world,” said George Johnson, president of Information Age Publishing.

The RAISE Center was established in spring 2022 to “revivify research and outreach about college students and explore how identity develops through their formative college experiences.”
