Dr. Jason Reese, an associate professor of marketing in the Stephen F. Austin State University Rusche College of Business, has been named the faculty athletic representative for the Intercollegiate Athletics Council, an internal advisory group that works with the president and the director of athletics to ensure the university’s compliance with the Southland Conference and the NCAA.
Reese was appointed to the position by Dr. Scott Gordon, university president.
As the council’s representative, Reese will assist in providing institutional control over the university’s intercollegiate athletics program and will be SFA’s direct liaison to the external athletics associations to which the university belongs. He has served as a member of SFA’s athletics council since 2017.
“I am honored to serve in this role,” Reese said. “It is my hope that I can assist SFA Athletics in becoming the lead mid-major in the country.”
Reese received his master’s in sport management, as well as his doctorate, at Texas A&M University. He joined the SFA faculty at SFA in July 2014, and his primary area of teaching and research is in sports marketing.
Reese is a board member of the Lumberjack Sports Institute, and he has collaborated with the external affairs division of SFA Athletics on numerous academic partnerships. Reese has been honored as the 2019 recipient of the SFASU Foundation Teaching Excellence Award, the Nelson Rusche College of Business Distinguished Faculty Member Award, and he received the college’s Distinguished Service Award. In the academic year 2018-19, Reese served as the chair of the Faculty Senate.
He is married to Kristin Reese, a nurse practitioner at SFA’s Student Health Clinic, and they have three daughters: Hannah, Abigail and Heidi.
SFA’s previous faculty athletic representative was the late Dr. Ken Collier, a faculty member in the College of Liberal and Applied Arts, who passed away in May.
