The Stephen F. Austin State University Military Science Department is hosting the LT. Kile G. West Memorial 5k and 10k Run on March 21st, 2020 at the Inturmural Fields across from the Student Recreation Center at 1817 Wilson Drive.

This unique 5K/10K walk, jog, run is in beautiful East Texas and is open to the public. The Race is held in memory of First Lieutenant Kile G. West, an SFASU Alumni and SFA Army ROTC commissionee who was KIA On Memorial Day, May 28, 2007, in Iraq. Hosted by the Cadets of the SFASU Department of Military Science. Registration includes one of a kind t-shirt and memorial finishing medal. Join in this great event for a great cause!
This race is in memory of United States Army 1st Lieutenant Kile G. West. Kile graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in December 2005 and earned a commission into the United States Army through SFA Army ROTC. After completing Field Artillery Basic Officer Leaders Course in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, LT West was assigned to 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas. On Memorial Day, May 28, 2007, Kile was killed in action in Abu Sayda, Iraq when his Bradley Fighting vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device, while attempting to rescue the flight crew of a downed aircraft. For his heroic actions that day, Lieutenant West was awarded the Army Bronze Star for Valor and the Purple Heart. Kile was an exemplary son, brother, and officer. He truly led from the front and set the example for others to follow. Lieutenant Kile G. West lived the SFA ROTC motto… “Be the Best”!
