An event hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will simulate what living in poverty might be like during its Poverty Simulation from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 5, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.
“During the simulation, participants will experience some of the daily challenges a family living in poverty could endure during a simulated experience of one month,” Veronica Beavers, director of OMA, said.
The event is sponsored by the East Texas Human Needs Network. Participation is limited, so participants should pre-register by visiting www.sfasu.edu/oma. If openings are still available on event day, they will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
Volunteers also are needed to fill the roles of various community agency and organization workers. Volunteers must complete a brief online training prior to the simulation. To volunteer, visit www.sfasu.edu/oma.
