Mrs. Weatherly spent her formative years with her parents who were sharecroppers in Nacogdoches County. Her family moved into the town of Nacogdoches when she was in her late teens. At 22, Maurine married Eugene M. Weatherly, Sr. The first of their four sons was born two years later. She lived much of the rest of her life on the Weatherly place near Appleby and later in the Appleby vicinity. Maurine was primarily a mother and homemaker, but also found time to be a teacher’s assistant at the Appleby School, 4-H adult leader, First Baptist Church Sunday School teacher, and Memorial Hospital volunteer. In her later years, Maurine attended the Appleby Church of Christ with her second husband, Hubert L. Weatherly. She was primary caretaker of her parents in their last years. She was a loving and beloved “Aunt Sis” or “Aunt Reen” to her Hutson nephews and nieces. Through her son Mitchell’s military service, she became a very ardent VFW Auxiliary member. She loved to go dancing at the VFW Hall. But her primary love and devotion in life was to her family.

The family expresses their deep appreciation to the staff at Willowbrook Nursing Home, to Dr. Aaron Polk and his staff, and to Susan Abbot, Speech Therapist, for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2242 West Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030-2008; (713) 314-1313.
