The Stephen F. Austin State University Center for Regional Heritage Research and the City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites will host an exhibit of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot beginning Thursday, April 26, 2018.
“More than Just a Riveter” will showcase Nacogdoches, Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, and Women’s Army Corps history during World War II. The exhibit idea was developed by SFA students, Sophia Savage and Kierstin Smith, and overseen by SFA History Department Chair and CRHR Director, Mark Barringer, in partnership with the City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites Department. The artifacts on display come mainly from the Gregg and Michelle Philipson Collection and Archive and include wonderful items such as WAAC uniforms, dolls, posters, medals and other rare items.
The exhibit opening will take place on April 26, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. There will be a guest speaker from the WAAC’s Veteran’s Association Chapter 94, and the event is free to the public with light refreshments provided. The Nacogdoches Railroad Depot is located at 101 Old Tyler Road in Nacogdoches and is free to the public Wednesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. “More than Just A Riveter” will be open through June.
