Mr. James Marion “Griff” Griffis, 86, of Nacogdoches passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at a local nursing home.
He was born May 10, 1924, in San Augustine, Texas, as a son of Arna Alburn Griffis and Mary Ella Fair Mitchell Griffis and had lived in Nacogdoches many years. He was a dedicated husband and father. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Griffis was a retired auto mechanic.
Survivors: his wife, Zelma Perry Griffis of Nacogdoches; a son, Johnny Griffis and wife Karen of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; three daughters, Marilyn Hawthorne and husband Gary of Nacogdoches, Sheryl Rawls and husband Ron of Lufkin, and Marjie Hughes and husband Dylan of Nacogdoches; seven grandchildren, Bonita Connally and husband Corley of Signal Mountain, James Griffis and wife Angie of Dallas, Becky Calvin and husband Perry of Frost, Jason Hawthorne of Nacogdoches, Andy Hawthorne and wife Celina of Lufkin, Michael Rawls and wife Mallori of Lufkin, and Rhonda Rawls of Lufkin; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah Connally, Brett Connally, Wyatt Calvin, and Preston Calvin.
Funeral services are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with Bro. John Stemper and Bro. Paul Sevar officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
