Press Release: Man charged with Arson

A Nacogdoches man is in custody after setting a house fire on Sunday evening. The Sheriff Office responded to a call in the 3000 block of Woden Road at or about 1:30 pm. Upon arrival deputies found that a fire had been intentionally set inside the residence in the master bedroom.

Upon further investigation, deputies found that a disturbance had taken place prior to their arrival. During the disturbance, the suspect took a gasoline can and poured onto the carpet of the master bedroom and then lit it on fire. The fire was able to be put by the complainant. During the time the fire was set, there were two small children inside the residence. A female who is 8 months pregnant was injured during the fire while trying to get a child out of the residence, and she had to be hospitalized.

Deputies found that the suspect, Monroe Ward had intentionally set the fire and made statements during the time that he wanted to conduct bodily harm to his girlfriend who lived at the residence. Ward was arrested at the scene and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.

Monroe Ward 25 years of age was charged with Arson causing bodily injury a 1st felony. Bond was set at $25,000.00 dollars.
