The Nacogdoches County sheriff Office has arrested a 16 year old juvenile after assaulting his grandfather with a baseball bat and assaulting a Deputy yesterday afternoon. The Sheriff Office responded to a disturbance call on Cr. 817 shortly after 5:00 pm. A Deputy arrived in the area of the call and observed the suspect walking down the middle of Cr. 817. The Deputy made contact with the juvenile who immediately attacked the Deputy. The juvenile struck the Deputy in the head several times with his fist causing several lacerations to the head. The juvenile was wearing a large ring on his finger which caused the injuries to be more severe to the Deputy. The Deputy was able to wrestle the juvenile to the ground and the juvenile continued to fight with the Deputy.
Sheriff Bridges stated that the Deputy was not able to get out on his portable radio to communicate that he needed help. The struggled continued for several intense minutes with the juvenile continuing to physically fight with the Deputy. The struggled ended when the juvenile ran out of energy and the Deputy was able to outlast him. The Deputy was then able to take him into custody.
Backup units arrived on scene along with Detectives from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office. The Deputy was taken to Nacogdoches County Memorial Hospital for treatment. Detectives also identified another victim in the case that the juvenile had previously assaulted before Deputies arrived. A 61 year old male that was the grandfather to the juvenile had been assaulted by the juvenile with a baseball bat to his head. The grandfather was transported to the Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital by EMS.
Sheriff Bridges stated that the assault occurred when the grandfather was attempting to discipline the juvenile for something he had done. The juvenile went into a fit of rage and started attacking his grandfather with a baseball bat.
The suspect has been charged with two counts of Aggravated assault which is a 1st felony. Aggravated assault on a peace officer and aggravated assault to a family member. Both assaults caused serious bodily injury. The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Greg County Juvenile detention center.
Sheriff Bridges stated that both the Deputy and grandfather are recovering from their injuries and were later released from the hospital.
