The annual Tour of Homes presented by the Friends of Historic Nacogdoches is scheduled for Saturday, December 13 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the Visitor Center, 200 E. Main, starting November 10th.
The event offers attendees a rare opportunity to step inside six private residences that were carefully chosen to represent the charm of Nacogdoches.
“The homes on this year’s tour are very impressive,” said Jannette Watts, Marketing Director for the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Beautifully restored historical homes with ornate detail work and gorgeous newer homes with lavish interiors will be showcased.”
Three of the homes on the tour were designed by famed architect Dietrich Rulfs in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s and are located in the historical Washington Square District. Another home featured on the tour is a downtown apartment housed in the same building as the former Mayer & Schmidt clothing store, which was once known as the “Largest Department Store in Nacogdoches since 1878.” Attendees will also get a glimpse inside a traditional country cottage home as well as the remodeled 1970’s home of popular local musician JR Ornelas.
The Tour of Homes is sponsored by the Nacogdoches County Board of Realtors, and proceeds benefit the Friends of Historic Nacogdoches’ various projects in the community.
The Tour of Homes is part of the 18th annual Nine Flags Christmas Festival, which celebrates the nine different flags that have flown over the oldest town in Texas. The annual festival is held Nov. 21 through Dec. 13 in Nacogdoches, located about 150 miles north of Houston via U.S. 59. Platinum sponsors of the festival include First Bank and Trust East Texas, Mike Perry Motor Company and Texas Farm Products.
