The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office is investigating a gruesome attack by two pit bull dogs that has left an eight year old child recovering from several dog bite wounds. The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office and Pct. 1 Constable Office were dispatched to Cr. 8113 about 9:30 last night in reference to two dogs attacking a child.
Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that the dogs had apparently escaped out of the back yard fence through a hole that was in the fence last night. Another child who lived in the subdivision had asked the victim to help her look for her lost dogs. The two children apparently split up looking for the dogs during the search. The victim was standing on Cr. 8113 when the two pit bull dogs came running up to her and started jumping on her. The child then started running away from the dogs and fell to the ground. Both dogs then started attacking the victim.
An elderly female who heard the attack taking place came running out and laid on top of the child trying to protect her. However, the dogs continued the attack biting both the elderly female and the young child. A nearby neighbor heard the attack taking place and was able to stop the attack. The neighbor had to use a baseball bat to beat the dogs away from the victim.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office and the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter have picked up both animals that were involved in the attack. The Sheriff Office has identified the owner of the dogs who have voluntarily surrendered both animals to the Sheriff Office.
The victim of the attack was transported by EMS to the Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. The victim is listed in stable condition. The elderly female was transported to the Hospital and is also listed in stable condition.
Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that both animals that were involved in this horrendous attack will be put down.
