Obituary: Marylois Dunn

Marylois Dunn, age 82, of Nacogdoches departed this life on March 29, 2013, in Lufkin, Texas.
Miss Dunn was born in Uvalde, Comal County, Texas, August 18, 1930. She was the daughter of Fern Shephard Dunn and Ruth Hawkes Dunn both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her adopted family Tim, Carol and Audrey (Sams) Odom and their extended family all of whom referred to her affectionately as “Aunt Belle”
Marylois was a librarian in the Houston Independent School District for 30 years. For several years she served Writer’s Digest as an instructor of Writing Juvenile Novels. She is remembered for her juvenile novels: The Man in the Box, A Story of Vietnam (winner of the Oklahoma Sequoiah Children’s Book award in 1968), the Absolutely Perfect Horse and Timber Pirates with co-author Ardath Mayhar.
In accordance with her wishes there will be a private memorial service scheduled at a later date. In urnment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches.
The Odom family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Stoneleigh Estates for their loving kindness and compassionate care they extended to Miss Dunn during her stay.
Those wishing to pay tribute to her life are asked to plant a rose bush or a tree or to give a donation to the Nacogdoches Treatment Center, 119 Hughes St., Nacogdoches, Tx., 75961.
